Current Schedule
We just finished up with Nationals in June and are looking forward to starting leagues in the fall. We're running some pick-up games in the meantime, but not every week. If you're interested in subbing or getting in on the next season, let us know!
Intro
Welcome to Whirlyball Rebels League! If you've made it this far you probably have an idea of what Whirlyball is and how much fun it can be. But just in case you don't:
Whirlyball is played 5 on 5 and combines elements of basketball, lacrosse, and bumper cars. Players use modified track ball scoops to pass and shoot a whiffle ball through an elevated goal.
Our league plays with a few more rules than other groups you might find, including possession clocks. We use Nationals rules, refined over time for fun and competitive play.
Location
We host leagues at both the Chicago and Vernon Hills locations in the Chicago area. We've also hosted leagues at the Naperville and Lombard locations in the past, so you may have met some of us there.
Open Plays
When we're between leagues, we sometimes hold Open Play nights — a great time for beginners to come out and get to know us and the game. Court time is usually 2–3 hours, with pricing based on how many people show up. We poll interest in our Facebook group before booking, so let us know if you can come!
League Play
It's always great to bring friends, but you don't need a team to join. Our League Committee builds teams each season with all skill levels in mind — five players per team, designed to be fun and competitive.
Please make sure you're on time: games start promptly at 7pm and end at 9pm. Games will start without you to keep the night on schedule, so let us know in advance if you can't make it and we'll find you a sub.
Season prices vary depending on length, number of players, and time booked. Since our numbers are based on registered players, we unfortunately can't refund money once a season has started.
You'll get about four 8–10 minute games per night, with extra length on playoff night for a double-elimination tournament. Every team makes the playoffs regardless of season record.
Subs
During regular leagues we may have sub spots available. The cost to sub for the night is $25, and we try to match subs to the same skill level.
National Tournaments
Some of us play in tournaments or travel to other locations throughout the year for practice. Tournaments are split by division, from beginners to the highest levels of competition and skill. We hold Nationals practices on Monday nights after league play — ask around at league or open plays if you're interested, and look for Bill, our National Players Rep.
